It's fanfic when I write about the flu
But can one be a fan of a disease?
I'm just not sure it's what I ought to do.

There's lots of meaty topics there to chew;
The sort of verse I'd polish off with ease
In fanfic, were it not about the flu:

Which myths are false, and which of them is true;
Misinformation carried on the breeze:
I'm just not sure it's what I ought to do.

My friends, I fear, might wish me to eschew
this work -- I might find nobody agrees
It's fanfic when I write about the flu --

But news of my approach is nothing new:
Eschewing any social niceties
I'm justified in what I sought to do.

I need a counter-topic. Here's a clue:
Rehearse my inner voices' nervous pleas --
It's fanfic when I write about the flu,
I'm just not sure it's what I ought to do.
